
Baekje Cultural Festival
[Buyeo Baekje Cultural Festival] Originating with the 1st Baekje Grand Festival, first held in Buyeo-gun in 1955, the Baekje Cultural Festival is one of South Korea’s leading historical and cultural festivals and marks its 72nd edition this year. It has widely promoted Baekje’s brilliant culture and long history, carried forward and developed the spirit and cultural heritage of its ancestors through modern interpretations, and strengthened regional identity and pride. The 72nd Baekje Cultural Festival will be held for 9 days from Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 11, 2026, throughout downtown Buyeo under the theme “Beautiful Baekje, Shining Sabi.” Centered on the Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Seoktap-ro, the Gwanbuk-ri Archaeological Site, and other locations, it will present approximately 40 programs across 7 categories, including ancestral and Buddhist rites, historical and cultural processions, performances, exhibitions, experiences, and illuminated night scenery. In particular, this year’s festival will take place in downtown Buyeo and operate as an open festival where Baekje’s history and culture, local commercial districts, and residents’ everyday lives come together, offering visitors a distinctive cultural experience in which past and present coexist. [Gongju Baekje Cultural Festival] The Baekje Cultural Festival is one of South Korea’s leading historical and cultural festivals, carrying forward and developing the brilliant history and cultural heritage of Ungjin Baekje through modern interpretations while strengthening regional identity and pride. The 72nd Baekje Cultural Festival will be held for 9 days from Saturday, October 3 to Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Geumgang Singwan Park, Mireu Island, Gongsanseong Fortress, and the old city center under the theme “Bronze Mirror, Reflecting the Light of 1,500 Years of Baekje.” With a bronze mirror excavated from the Tomb of King Muryeong as its central motif, the festival illuminates Baekje’s light and historical value through diverse programs. Distinctive attractions include the signature immersive convergence performance “Ungjin Fantasia” and the new nighttime outdoor performance at Gongsanseong Fortress, “Jeop · Gyeong: The Night the Queen Crossed,” staged against the World Heritage-listed fortress. Nighttime and extended-stay content expressing the character of Ungjin Baekje will also unfold, including the citizen-participation “Ungjinseong Parade,” the “Ungjin Baekje Lantern Celebration” and “Ungjin Baekje Starlight Garden” illuminating the nightscape, and “Gongsanseong Media Art.” In addition, diverse programs connect with the local economy and commercial districts, including experiences for all generations such as the Baekje village Gomachon, a bronze-mirror mission tour, and “Let’s Play, Baekje,” as well as “Following Baekje’s Flavors and Style,” “Welcome to Singwan-dong,” and the 22nd National Excellent Market Expo, offering visitors a distinctive cultural experience where past and present come together.
