Seoul Royal Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony

The 'Seoul Royal Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony' is a representative traditional culture reenactment event hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and it vividly recreates the changing of the guard who protected the palace gates during the Joseon Dynasty. The royal guard commander was an official of rank junggye 6-pum, and together with the junior officers and royal guards of the royal guard office, he protected the palace gates, controlled entry and exit, and carried out patrols. The changing ceremony is based on actual historical materials and is centered on Deoksugung in the late Joseon period. The event is held 6 days a week except Mondays, at 11 and 2 in front of Deoksugung's Daehanmun Gate. To increase interest among the general public and foreign tourists, a variety of hands-on programs are also offered. 'Opening Drum Experience' is an activity where participants strike the drum themselves to signal the start of the ceremony, 'I Am Also a Royal Guard' lets participants wear royal guard attire and experience the role, and 'Traditional Attire Experience' is a popular activity where participants can wear Joseon-era clothing and take photos.
