Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival

The Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival is one of Seoul's representative history and culture festivals, held in Gwanak, a city that embraces history, to honor the patriotism and great achievements of General Gang Gam-chan, the hero of the Battle of Gwiju. The Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival is a leading historical and cultural festival in Seoul held to honor the patriotism of General Gang Gam-chan of Goryeo, and it is also a signature festival of Gwanak, created and enjoyed together by the residents of Gwanak-gu. The Gang Gam-chan Festival was newly launched in 2016 by integrating Gwanaksan Azalea Festival, Gwanak-gu's representative traditional cultural festival that had continued since 1998, and Nakseongdae Inhunje, a memorial rite that had continued since 1988. Against the backdrop of cultural heritage sites imbued with the spirit of the general, such as Nakseongdae, where General Gang Gam-chan was said to have been born when Muryeokseong, the fourth star of the Big Dipper, fell; Inheundong, named after the general's posthumous title; and Seowondong, which has a pavilion that the general often visited when traveling between Songdo and other places, the festival continues the general's legacy by presenting diverse programs in the form of modern-day people. The third week of October brings 'Tomorrow Gang Gam-chan'. Marking its 10th anniversary in 2026, the Gwanak Gang Gam-chan Festival is expanding its content into a Seoul representative Goryeo history and culture festival with K-culture, and is taking a new leap forward as a sustainable win-win festival that connects generations and revitalizes the region.
