The Pohang International Fireworks Festival began in 2004 with a fireworks show held to commemorate Pohang Citizens' Day, using the images of 'light,' symbolizing Pohang as a world-class steel city, and 'fire,' symbolizing the blazing furnace. It later expanded into an international-scale festival event, and famous overseas fireworks teams participate every year. The festival contents have also moved beyond simple firework-centered programming to include production performances and light parades, making it a diverse festival of harmony that blends industrial and cultural elements.
