Namsan Beacon Ceremony and Other Traditional Cultural Events

The Namsan Beacon Ceremony and Other Traditional Cultural Events are organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to recreate a Joseon-era communication method, introduce citizens and domestic and international tourists to Korea's traditional culture, and provide opportunities to enjoy culture. During the Joseon period, the Namsan Beacon Station was an important communication facility that received the final convergence of beacon signals sent from stations across the country and conveyed the situation to the capital. Visitors can watch the Namsan Beacon Ceremony at the station and listen to historical commentary. The daily noon Bosingak Citizen Bell-Ringing Ceremony is also a participatory event held with citizens and tourists. At the octagonal pavilion square by Namsan Seoul Tower, visitors can watch samulnori performances and traditional martial arts demonstrations. Additional hands-on programs include a one-day night-watch officer experience and a one-day beacon keeper experience.
