Myeongnyang Great Victory Festival

The Myeongnyang Great Victory Festival is a patriotic historical and cultural festival commemorating the Battle of Myeongnyang, an unprecedented naval battle in world history in which Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s Joseon navy, after he was reappointed as commander of the three provincial fleets, and the Jeolla fishermen defeated the Japanese navy at Uldolmok on September 16, 1597. It is a representative local historical and cultural festival jointly held every year since 2008 by Jeollanam-do, Jindo-gun, and Haenam-gun, and its defining features are an ICT converged multimedia naval battle and a sea parade, departure parade, and local performances that modernize the reenactment of the Battle of Myeongnyang. In addition, landscape lighting is installed throughout the festival grounds and programs are prepared so visitors can experience history and culture, providing an opportunity to directly experience the historic site of the Myeongnyang Great Victory. Through this, the festival aims to widely promote the historical value and patriotic spirit of the Myeongnyang Great Victory and introduce the historical, cultural, and tourism resources of Jindo and Haenam together.
