Sokcho Summer Festival

The 2026 Sokcho Summer Festival is a representative local summer festival held over 3 days from July 31 to August 2, 2026, around Sokcho Beach in Sokcho-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Against the backdrop of Sokcho’s blue sea and cool beach, this event offers dynamic summer content to vacationers and local residents. Programs include ‘Reply Arcade,’ a retro game tournament; ‘Sokcho Summer Splash Water Run,’ a water-gun battle survival game; and ‘Summer Groove,’ where local dance teams and audiences come together. At night, ‘Beach Sound,’ a music performance spanning various genres, and ‘Summer Night Electric,’ an electronic DJ festival that will blow away the midsummer heat, heat up the main stage. In addition, free hands-on programs with a refreshing summer mood, such as DIY fan and pinwheel making, and a local food market with 14 teams are operated to promote coexistence with local businesses. With dynamic attractions that continue from day to night, this festival offers visitors the perfect summer getaway in everyday life.

Gyeongpo Summer Festival

The Gyeongpo Summer Festival is a signature festival held every summer at Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung. In 2026, it will take place from July 30 to August 5 over 7 days, offering a wide range of sights and activities, including performances by artists from new genres every day, diverse beach programs, and events. During the day, there will be a giant raffle game, various challenge games on the sand, and a mini game zone available for free enjoyment in the pine forest picnic area. On Fridays and Saturdays, a beer garden linked with the Beach Beer Festival will be prepared, and on Sundays and Mondays, a water gun battle program will be available. Every night, as the hot sun sets and the night breeze begins to blow, performances by theme-based artists and EDM parties continue. You can fully enjoy both day and night in Gyeongpo at the Gyeongpo Summer Festival.

Gangneung National Heritage Night Walk

Gangneung National Heritage Night Walk is a program selected by the Cultural Heritage Administration as a “National Heritage Representative Brand Project.” Centered on streets where cultural heritage is densely concentrated, it promotes greater use of cultural heritage by offering a variety of activities such as performances, hands-on experiences, and arts, while also enhancing preservation value through enjoyment of the meaning and value of cultural heritage. Gangneung City has participated in the National Heritage Night Walk project of the Cultural Heritage Administration since 2016. This year, Gangneung National Heritage Night Walk will unfold around Gangneung Daedohobu Government Office, Seobu Market, and the Myeongju-dong area, and 8 nighttime-themed programs are prepared: night scenery, night road, night history, night painting, night story, night food, night stay, and night market. Each program delivers the meaning and value of cultural heritage through distinctive content such as sights, food, and activities, and provides an opportunity to experience the history and culture of Gangneung City.

Myeongju Puppet Festival

The Myeongju Puppet Festival is a puppet festival in the Yeongdong region that has been loved by Gangneung citizens since it began with its 1st edition in 2014. Attracting nearly 10,000 visitors every year, it has established itself as a representative family festival in the Yeongdong region. You can enjoy a variety of puppet theater genres such as hand puppets, paper-cup puppet theater, puppet musicals, and shadow puppet theater, and as side events, there are also hands-on programs and exhibition programs prepared so that children can have diverse experiences. Breaking away from the preconception that puppet theater is only for children, it has grown into a puppet festival that the whole family can enjoy by carefully selecting performances with solid stories and excellent acting and directing. 2026 Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival

The 2026 Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival, hosted by Gangwon State and organized by the Gangwon Cultural Foundation, with Artistic Director Yang Sung-won, will be held for 11 days from Thursday, July 23 to Sunday, August 2 across Gangwon State, including Alpensia Concert Hall and the Daegwallyeong Outdoor Stage (Music Tent) in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun. This year, under the theme 'Legacy and Innovation,' the festival seeks to show that works by composers accumulated over hundreds of years are a living foundation of art that continues to breathe today and becomes the soil for new creation, and it plans to introduce many new musicians and new works, connecting the overall performances into a single narrative and journey so that audiences can experience a larger flow through music. There will be 19 performances, 10 performances, , the 'Chamber Music Mentorship Program' and 'Masterclass', and 5 performances, as well as the 'Special Lecture'.
