16th Gwangju Biennale

September 5, 2026 – November 15, 2026111 Biennale-ro, Buk-gu, Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special Metropolitan City (Yongbong-dong)

Opening on September 5, 2026, the 16th Gwangju Biennale, “You Must Change Your Life,” takes its title from the final line of a poem published by Rainer Maria Rilke in 1908. At the moment the speaker in the poem encounters a broken ancient sculpture, the speaker experiences a transformation in the way the world is perceived. As perspective and position change, we realize that we can no longer continue living as before. I must change.
