Semiwon Water Lily Cultural Festival
The Semiwon Water Lily Cultural Festival is a leading autumn garden-culture festival held at Semiwon in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Surrounded on three sides by Paldang Lake, Semiwon is a garden of water and flowers that features traditional East Asian garden design and a variety of aquatic plants and is Gyeonggi-do’s 1st Local Garden. The Water Lily Cultural Festival centers on Semiwon’s signature aquatic plant, the water lily, and offers distinctive autumn garden scenery. It presents a distinctive garden landscape where a variety of water lilies and aquatic plants come together, including the Victoria water lily, known as the “queen of flowers,” exotic Australian water lilies, and vibrantly colored tropical water lilies. Visitors can admire the beauty of water lilies blooming on the rippling water while enjoying a leisurely break within the city. As the venue of the 2026 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo, it is expected to present even richer garden-culture content. The Semiwon area is also imbued with the history of the pontoon bridge associated with Jeong Yak-yong, a Silhak scholar of the late Joseon period. With various facilities including the Lotus Museum, Onggi Jar Fountain, Sehanjeong Pavilion, and the pontoon bridge, it serves as a complex cultural space where nature, ecology, culture, and art converge, as well as a year-round garden tourism destination.
